The Foton Tunland pickup truck has been spotted testing yet again in Pune. These images were snapped by MotorBash reader, Kiran Manjal, who spotted two Tunland test mules. While globally Foton sells the single and double cab variations of the Tunland, the mules spotted here were the double cab, that too the top-end variants.
On the outside, features such as projector headlights and alloy wheels are seen hinting that the Tunland could be positioned as a lifestyle pickup truck (much like the Scorpio Getaway and the Tata Xenon XT). Inside, we notice wooden trims on the doors and the dashboard, power windows for all the doors, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, driver seat height adjuster and a sort of leather finish for the seats.
While Foton had announced its plans to enter the Indian market with LCVs and MCVs in 2011, we haven't seen any products being launched till date. MotorBash reports that the proposed Pune plant is ready and that an office has also been set up in Pune. Maybe we could expect the first offerings to be introduced soon?
Even while the Tunland is testing in India, we hear that a Tunland based SUV (codenamed U201) rivaling the Toyota Fortuner and yet looking like a Prado, is being worked upon in China.
Regular readers may remember that Great Wall Motors, another Chinese manufacturer, had also announced plans to set up a manufacturing facility in Pune.
