Fiat India will premiere a crossover style model based on the Punto at the Auto Expo next month. The car, likely to be called the Fiat Punto Avventure, has been spied in Italy previously revealing its boot-mounted stepney.
Anything On Wheels reader, Mr. Punit Sharma, has now snapped this car near Fiat India's manufacturing base in Pune, Maharashtra. The test mule only has its rear camouflaged, but that's still not a disappointment for us as the bulge reveals the placement of the spare wheel.
Fiat engineers are likely to use a swingarm mechanism which will be hinged to the rear bumper, which in turn will house the spare wheel. To further differentiate the Avventure from the regular Punto, plastic claddings and several 'Avventure' logos would be seen on the car. Whether or not the ground clearance will be increased is unknown.
Mechanically, the Avventure will share it's underpinnings with the regular Punto. Which means that the 1.3-liter MultiJet engine will be offered and Fiat has the option to give this engine 75 PS or 90 PS of power.
Fiat India plans to launch four cars this year including the Avventure. The other three cars, most of which will also have their Indian debuts at the Expo, are the facelifted Linea, the Punto Abarth and the refreshed Punto.
