Deliveries start in August this year.
Eicher-Polaris Pvt. Ltd., a 50:50 joint venture, today launched its first offering, the Multix utility vehicle. The Multix is claimed to be India's first "personal utility vehicle", and can also be used for ambulance applications, says the company. The Multix is priced between INR 2.32 to INR 2.72 lakhs, ex-Showroom, Jaipur.
The Multix will be available in two variants and four colors, and will be powered by a 600 cc diesel engine capable of delivering 28.45 km/l.
The Multix is based on a tubular frame structure and gets Roll-Over Protection System (ROPS) with a Pro Ride Independent suspension system. It has a ground clearance of 225 mm, and comes with a durable 'Flexituff' body. The vehicle can seat a family of five along with luggage, and has a 1,918 liter cargo room.
The Multix also comes with X-PORT, which can generate up to 3 kW of energy which can be used for lighting homes and powering equipment like water pumps and drilling machines.
Initially, the Multix will be launched in 30 cities, and deliveries are announced to commence in August. The joint venture says that the Multix has undergone 18,00,000 km equivalent of testing for "off-road reliability, safety & durability".
The joint venture has invested INR 350 crores, for product development and in setting up a manufacturing plant in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The factory, equipped with robotic weld lines and an in-house paint system, has an annual capacity of 60,000 units which can be scaled up to 120,000 units/annum.
