Ducati is gearing up to make a serious increment to its Monster family in order to entertain a wider audience. The bike in question is the upcoming Ducati Monster 1198, recently spied testing by Moto.it.
The naked bike is all set to take the Monster nameplate right into the superbike category giving riders a mouth-watering combination of street dynamics and pure brutal power.
Although the test mules in these spyshots are heavily camouflaged, it is clear that the bike will borrow the styling traits from the Ducati Diavel with few new bits and bobs. However, the Monster’s trademark design cues like exposed Trellis frame, minimalistic tail, prominent fuel tank and taut ergonomics would be carried forward to give Monster 1198 its distinctive presence.
The most probable engine option is the liquid-cooled 1198cc Testastretta V-Twin that, with 150 horsepower, will make the 1198 the most powerful Monster ever.
The extra power, improved dynamics, tech-laden features and the well-balanced Monster torso, the 1198 is surely going to be an irresistible package when launched in 2013 EICMA show. The superbike would be an all rounder.
However, placing it with the likes of Diavel and Streetfighter is not exactly going to be a duck soup for Ducati as the mighty new Monster 1198 can cause a bit of cannibalism for the former models.
