The Maruti Wagon R was first launched in 1999 and has already found over 2.2 million buyers.

The WagonR has been the bread and butter offering for Maruti Suzuki. The tallboy hatchback has worked wonders for India's largest automaker in the last 20 years of its existence and has regularly worked its way to the 'Top 5 selling cars in India' list. Apart from its reliable engine and spacious/practical cabin, its lower-entry price has also been its USP which has arguably contributed to the popularity over the years.

The 2019 Maruti Wagon R was launched in January this year. It is underpinned by the company's fifth-gen Heartect platform and is available with two petrol engine options. The WagonR 1.0L comes powered with the BS-IV K10B three-cylinder engine which churns out 50 kW (67.98 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. This engine comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automated manual transmission. A petrol-CNG variant of the 1.0L engine model is available, in which the engine's maximum power and maximum torque reduce to 43.5 kW (59.14 PS) and 78 Nm respectively.

The 2019 Maruti WagonR 1.2L comes with a K12M four-cylinder engine which delivers 61 kW (82.94 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. It is also available with a standard 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 5-speed automated manual transmission. These output figures belong to the BS4 version engine. The 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engine options offer an ARAI-tested fuel efficiency of 22.5 km/l and 20.52 km/l, respectively. The 1.0L petrol-CNG engine returns 33.54 km/kg.
