BMW unveiled the first-ever X7 just last month, and it has decided to quickly import the flagship to the Indian market. A report from Autocar says that the company will launch the full-size SUV here at the India Art Fair on 31 January.
The three-row SUV offers seats for seven people as standard (with conventional second-row bench seat configuration). However, customers can go for individual middle row seats alternatively, in which case the capacity reduces to six people. When all the seats are in use, 326 litres of load capacity is available. Folding down the backrests of the second- and third-row seats increases this figure to 2,120 litres.
Internationally, BMW will sell the X7 in four mechanical configurations at launch, with 8-speed Steptronic transmission and xDrive AWD system as standard.
BMW X7 - Engine Options
- xDrive40i - 3.0-litre petrol engine, 340 PS at 5,500-6,500 rpm, 450 Nm at 1,500-5,200 rpm
- xDrive50i - 4.4-litre petrol engine, 462 PS at 5,200-6,000 rpm, 650 Nm at 1,500-4,750 rpm
- xDrive30d - 3.0-litre diesel engine, 265 PS at 4,000 rpm, 620 Nm at 2,000-2,500 rpm
- M50d - 3.0-litre diesel engine, 400 PS at 4,400 rpm, 760 Nm at 2,000-3,000 rpm
In India, the X7 will arrive in the M50d M Performance model at launch which comes with an M Sport differential, a model-specific chassis setup and 21-inch alloy wheels for a higher agility and steering precision. A two-axle air suspension is a standard fitment across the range and allows the driver to lower the height by 40 mm.
Key features of the BMW X7 include BMW Laserlight with Adaptive LED headlights, slim LED rear lights, two-section split tailgate, three-part panoramic glass roof with Sky Lounge, five-zone automatic climate control, massage function for second- and third-row seats, Parking Assistant Plus for automated parking and Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with 20 speakers and 1,500-watt amplifier.
Initially, BMW India will import the X7 in the CBU form, from Spartanburg, USA. In September 2019, the range will see the addition of the xDrive40i and xDrive30d configurations, presumably once local assembly from CKD kits commences.
