The BMW Concept X2 will hit the global market in production form as the BMW X2 next year. According to a report from CarDekho, the coupe-crossover model has been confirmed for India.
The report says that the BMW Group has confirmed that the BMW X2 will sell in India. A specific timeline for launch is not available yet. The production X2 has so far made appearances only in camouflaged form. Lifestyle news site Highsnobiety introduced the first camouflaged version in August, and another camouflaged version followed in Milan during Fashion Week last week. A report yesterday on BMWBlog confirmed that a private unveiling of the model was held this month.
The BMW X2 has an individual look with styling and proportions notably different from the BMW X1. Underneath that more dynamic body, though, is the same UKL front-wheel-drive platform. BMW should offer it with the same 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engines as the X1. The X1 is available with 136 PS 1.5-litre petrol, 192 PS 2.0-litre petrol, 231 PS 2.0-litre petrol, 116 PS 1.5-litre diesel, 150 PS 2.0-litre diesel, 190 PS 2.0-litre diesel and 231 PS 2.0-litre diesel engines.
The X2 will likely have 6-speed manual and 8-speed Steptronic transmission choices. Like the other Sports Activity Coupes X4 and X6, it may have the xDrive AWD system as standard.

The BMW X2 could see a local assembly at the BMW Group Plant Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Importing the SAC in CKD form could help BMW keep the prices competitive. A platform like the Auto Expo could be ideal for the model's debut.
