The BMW i8 was shown at the 2014 Bangkok International Motor Show today. The production i8 was world premiered at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show last September, with European deliveries due to begin in June this year.
Since its world premiere, BMW say that they have updated the i8 further. The final production version will do 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds (as against 4.5 seconds), while the average fuel efficiency has increased to 47.6 km/l (up from 40 km/l).
Power for the i8 comes from a three-cylinder 1.5-liter petrol engine mated to an electric motor. Combined, the supercar produces 362 hp and 570 Nm of torque. The top-speed of the i8 is rated at 250 km/h (electronically limited), while the top-speed in pure electric mode is limited to 120 km/h. When using pure electricity, the i8 has a range of 37 km.
The i8 was shown at the 2014 Auto Expo which took place in New Delhi last month. BMW India's Marketing Director, Mr. Frank Schlöder, told Indian Autos Blog that the car received overwhelming response at the show, and that there were customers willing to book the car immediately.
However, due to better-than-anticipated demand overseas, the first year production of the i8 is reported to have been sold out already.
