BMW has showcased its limited edition i8, the BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition gets an exclusive paint job, new wheels, and interior features to mark the car from the standard i8. The exterior gets Protonic Frozen Yellow colour and with Frozen Grey Metallic Accent. BMW has employed a sophisticated application process to transfer the paint to the BMW i8's carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) bodywork. The silky-matte shimmer of the finish shines a particularly vivid spotlight on the car's dynamic lines and flowing surface design. The vehicle also sports the newly designed 20-inch BMW i light-alloy wheels in W-Spoke design with matte painted surfaces and mixed-size tyres.
Swing the door, and your gaze is immediately drawn to the door sill finisher emblazoned with the respective, exclusive lettering. Other eye-catchers include the dark NESO seats with woven yellow and anthracite stitching and the headrest with the embossed BMW i8 logo. The seat belt in a grey colour finish. The gear shift lever and central operating element get a ceramic design. The selector lever and iDrive Controller get ceramic applications as well. A Harman/Kardon sound system and Velour floor mats with black leather piping and yellow highlight are standard in this model.
The mechanical underpinning of the limited edition plug-in hybrid car remains the same. It uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine in tandem with an electric motor. The engine produces 231 PS of power, and 320 Nm of torque and the electric motor gives out 96 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The powerplant mates with a six-speed automatic transmission. The battery is a 7.1 kWh lithium ion unit. The electric drivetrain offers even zero emissions driving, of up to 23 miles (37 km) within the EU test cycle.
The limited edition car goes on sale this month.
