Expected to launch in India in October.
IAB readers Gautham Athanki, Sarath Kumar, Deepak Thavaselvam and Navin Kumar have spotted a couple of pre-production BMW G310R prototypes testing on the Chennai-Bangalore highway. It is expected to launch in India in October.
The BMW G310R is the first bike from the BMW Motorrad - TVS joint venture that will also spawn the TVS Akula 310. The G310R will be produced at TVS's plant in Hosur with a high-degree of localization, making it the first 'Made in India' BMW bike. It will also be exported from India to global markets.
Powering the G310R is an all-new 313 cc backward-tilted single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with DOHC producing 34 hp (25 kW) at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm at 7,500 rpm, paired to a 6-speed transmission. Stopping power comes from a single 300 mm front disc brake with radially bolted 4-piston caliper and a 240 mm rear disc brake that has a 2-piston floating caliper, supplemented by a two-channel ABS.
Given that the G310R will appeal to a much wider audience than their more expensive CBU portfolio, BMW Motorrad will have to increase the number of outlets across India. Currently, they are only represented by two distributors – Deutsche Motoren for Delhi NCR and Navnit Motors for the rest of India.
