The Audi Q7 has been the king of Audi’s ‘Q’ range since it was launched in 2005. That’s seven years of sheer domination in the SUV segment.
Come 2014, we will see an all new Q7 which will be lighter and more agile than its predecessor. But it will lose its halo to an all new king of the ‘Q’ range – Audi Q9
No, I haven’t forgotten my counting skills. If Automobile-magazine.fr’s information is anything to go by, the leader of the Q range will not be an Audi Q8 because the Q8 will be a coupe crossover cousin to the Q7.
The Audi Q9 will be based on an extended platform of the next generation Audi Q7 (MLB platform) . It will reach 5.15 meters in length.
Details are a bit sketchy but the Audi Q9 will be massive enough to dwarf the Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade and Mercedes GL. It will be powered by a huge 3.0 V12 TDI engine with Quattro all-wheel drive. The target market will be America Europe and China. Expect the debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show debut.
The French magazine has also presented a rendering of the Audi Q6 - a rival to the successful BMW X6. Now, we know a lot about the upcoming Audi Q6. In fact we have done a comprehensive product deep dive over here.
This new Audi’s fascination of crossovers is the first step in materializing its plans to become the largest luxury automaker in the world. The VW group board is yet to approve these crossover so it may take a while to see them on the market.
