Ahead of its market launch on August 7, Audi India has commenced assembly of the A3 Sedan at its Aurangabad plant. After the Audi A6, A4, Q5, Q7 and Q3, the A3 Sedan is the sixth model to be assembled at the plant.
The car launches next month with a petrol and a diesel engine option. The diesel motor is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 143 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, and matched to a 6-speed S-Tronic gearbox. The petrol is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder TFSI producing 180 bhp and 250 Nm of torque matched to a 7-speed dual-clutch S-Tronic gearbox.
The petrol claims to achieve a mileage of 16.6 km/l, and the diesel 20.38 km/l, according to the ARAI. The A3 Sedan will also introduce Audi's new nomenclature wherein the diesel will be called '35 TDI' and the petrol will be named '40 TFSI'.
The A3 Sedan doesn't have a direct competitor in India as yet. Hence, it will rival cars like the Mercedes A and B Class and BMW 1 Series.
