Audi India will launch the A3 Sedan on August 7, Indian Autos Blog was told by company officials at the car's media drive this week. The entry-level sedan, which was shown to its Indian audience at the Auto Expo earlier this year, will be assembled at the company's Aurangabad facility through parts and components form (CKD).
The A3 Sedan will be launched with two engine options - a petrol and a diesel. The petrol is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder TFSI producing 180 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, while the diesel is a 2.0-liter TDI making 143 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The petrol gets a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and the diesel makes do with a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The A3 Sedan will introduce Audi's new variant nomenclature with the diesel being called the 35 TDI and the petrol, badged 40 TFSI. The TDI has an ARAI certified efficiency of 20.38 km/l and the petrol is claimed to achieve 16.6 km/l.
At least two trim levels of the A3 Sedan will be offered with features like LED daytime running lights, Xenon lights, LED taillights, navigation and reverse camera reserved to the top-end variant. The base variant will receive halogen headlights.
The A3 will slot below the A4 in Audi India's lineup, and there is no direct rival to it yet.
