Piaggio India is likely to launch the Aprilia Storm 125 in India in April 2019, according to a report from BikeWale.

The Aprilia Storm 125 will feature bright matte paint schemes with new graphics, chunky off-road tyres and optional accessories.

At the launch of the 2018 Aprilia SR150 and the Vespa range, Ashish Yakhmi, Head, Piaggio India(Two-wheelers Business), had confirmed to IAB that the scooter will be launched in Q1 (January- March) 2019. The delay in launch is being attributed to unsold inventory of the Aprilia SR125 at the majority of its dealer-partners.

The source report says that the bookings for the Aprilia Storm 125 will commence from 1 April, and the launch will take place by the third week of April. Deliveries are expected to begin from the day of the launch.

The Aprilia Storm 125 was unveiled in India at last year’s Auto Expo. It is based on the SR125 but comes with sporty styling. The Storm 125 features matte paint schemes, new graphics and optional accessories that differentiates it from the SR125. It is equipped with smaller, 12-inch alloy wheels and dual-purpose knobby tyres.

The Storm 125 display model at the Auto Expo featured Vee Rubber tyres. While it would be nice to have those tyres, the company could be looking at localising a few parts to keep the prices under check. That said, the production-spec Aprilia Storm 125 will feature a tall windscreen as an optional extra.

Powering the Aprilia Storm 125 is the 124.49 cc motor of the SR125 that develops 9.51 BHP of power at 7,250 rpm along with a peak torque of 9.8 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm. This engine is paired with a CVT.

Braking will be aided by disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear, and combined braking system (CBS) will be standard. Interestingly, the Storm 125 will be positioned below the Aprilia SR125, which retails at INR 67,085 (ex-showroom Delhi). We expect the Storm 125 to cost around INR 65,000 (ex-showroom).
