India Kawasaki Motor says that the deliveries of the W800 Street will start in mid-August 2019. The W800 Street will be produced in limited numbers and the bookings will be closed after reaching targeted numbers.

The new motorcycle draws inspiration from the W1, the largest-displacement Japanese model at times in the market. The retro-styling is enhanced by the curvy design to the body panels, sculpted fuel tank, round headlight with chrome mask, round blinkers with a chrome housing, twin-pod instrument console with chrome surrounds, twin exhausts and fork gaiters among other features. The front fender gets a simple design and it can be customised as per the buyer’s preference.

The analogue dials of speedometer and tachometer give the cockpit a retro look, while the 5-way adjustable clutch lever and 4-way adjustable brake lever add a modern touch. A multifunctional LCD screen accompanies the analogue dials to display more ride-related information.

While the motorcycle misses the chrome-finished sides of the tank of the original W1, the new matte paint gives it a subtle, yet appealing look to the bike. The Kawasaki W badge sits on the tank while the side panels feature “800”. The raised fuel filler cap and ribbed pattern on the saddle further improve the retro aesthetics of the W800 Street. The tall-set handlebar tilts towards the rider, which lends a comfortable riding position.

The air-cooled 773 cc vertical twin engine propels the motorcycle that features an assist and slipper clutch. The motor is installed inside an updated modern double-cradle frame design.

Shock absorption department comprises large diameter forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the back. Anchoring department comprises 320 mm front disc and 270 mm rear disc, while the safety net includes ABS. The motorcycle rides on aluminium spoke wheels that enhance its retro looks.

The Kawasaki W800 Street will compete against the Triumph Bonneville family in the Indian market. The Royal Enfield Interceptor INT 650 trades in a completely different price bracket and thus should not threaten the sales of the W800 Street.
