Company's first dual-purpose motorcycle showcased with touring gear.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan, the company's first dual-purpose bike, is based on an all-new platform which will underpin other new Royal Enfields in the future. Built for adventure and touring, the Himalayan measures 2190 mm in length, 840 mm in width and 1,360 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 1,465 mm and a seat height of 800 mm. It has a ground clearance of 220 mm and a kerb weight of 182 kg.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan gets powered by the new LS 410 engine, a 411 cc single cylinder, air-cooled engine that develops 24.5 bhp (18.02 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm of torque at 4,000-4,500 rpm. The carburetted engine links to a 5-speed transmission. The fuel tank tops up at 15 litres. The 21-inch (front) and 17-inch (rear) wheels get their stopping power from 300 mm and 240 mm disc brakes respectively. The suspension setup includes 41 mm telescopic forks with 200 mm travel and a mono shock with 180 mm travel.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan costs INR 1,65,766 (ex-showroom Mumbai). Last month, the motorcycle launched with a Euro 4-compliant engine and ABS in the UK, and the upgrades are expected in the Indian-spec version this year.
