Ather 340 electric scooter discontinued with immediate effect due to low demand

Bangalore-based Ather Energy has pulled the plug from its budget model, the Ather 340, with immediate effect. Customers with pending orders for the Ather 340 can upgrade to the Ather 450.

Ather Energy said in its social media post that 99% of its buyers were opting for the 450, which is why the company decided to discontinue the 340.

The Ather 340 was discontinued due to lower demand. Below is what the company wrote on its social networking channels:

99% of our customers prefer to own the higher variant, the Ather 450. On this account, we are discontinuing the Ather 340 and focusing on scaling up production for the Ather 450.

The on-road Bangalore prices for the Ather 450 stand at INR 1,13,715 in Bangalore and INR 1,22,224 in Chennai. The Ather 340 was available for INR 1,02,460 OTR in Bangalore and for INR 1,10,608 OTR in Chennai.

For the premium, the Ather 450 gets a higher capacity motor that makes 5.4 kW of power and 20.5 Nm of peak torque. The 0-40 km/h acceleration takes 3.9 seconds, while the top speed stands at 80 km/h. The 450 boasts a range of 75 km (in Eco mode). Check out the riding modes and the corresponding range (claimed) and top speed for the Ather 450 in the table below:

In comparison, the Ather 340 came with a relatively lower-spec motor that pumped out 4.4 kW of power and 20 Nm of torque. The 0 to 40 km/h acceleration on the 340 took 5.1 seconds, while the top speed was rated at 70 km/h. The 340 delivered a relatively lower 60 km range (in Eco mode).

Common features of both models include all-LED lighting, 7-inch touchscreen dashboard with onboard navigation, parking assist and a massive 24-litre under-seat storage space.

The Ather 450 is available in Bangalore and Chennai for INR 1,13,715 and INR 1,22,224 respectively - both on-road prices.

In other updates, Ather Energy recently announced the launch of Ather Dot home charging point that comes with the Ather 450. The Ather Dot charges up the 450's battery pack to 80% level in approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes, while a full recharge takes 5 hours and 15 minutes.
