Speaking about the launch of the new Hypermotard 950, Sergi Canovas, Managing Director of Ducati India, said:
Hypermotard range has been loved and appreciated by riders who look for a fun and adrenalin-packed motorcycle. The new Hypermotard 950 inherits the sport and fearless characteristics which aligns to the personality of a rider who wants pure fun. It does not confine itself to a supermoto bike alone but rather comes with the performance of a dirt bike and soul of a sports bike. It’s a perfect choice for riders who’re looking for a thrilling yet sophisticated motorcycle.
Styling upgrade exercise adds a compact headlight with Daytime Running Light (DRL) at the front. The beak design, on the other hand, has been retained from its predecessors. The revised tail section features a rear Trellis sub-frame and twin under-seat tailpipes – features that were seen on the 2009 Hypermotard 796.
Ducati has also revised the ergonomics with wider handlebars, slimmer sides and a new seat. A leaner inner curve ensures easy access to terra-firma. The inner leg curve measurement on the 2019 Hypermotard has been shortened by 53 mm than its predecessor.
In terms of mechanical specifications, the new Hypermotard 950 uses a 937 cc twin-cylinder Ducati Testastretta 11° engine that makes 4 more horsepower than its predecessor, bringing the total power output to 114 hp at 9,000 rpm. The peak torque of 96 Nm (9.8 kg.m) arrives at 7,250 rpm, 80% of which is available at as low as 3,000 rpm. The Hypermotard 950 also features three riding modes.
The added power is accompanied by lighter weight for better power-to-weight ratio. The new Hypermotard is 4 kg lighter than the model it replaces. Weight shedding exercise includes new steel trellis frame, new rims, brake discs with aluminium flanges and lightweight Marzocchi forks with aluminium fork bodies/tubes.
Two monobloc radially mounted 4-piston Brembo M4.32 callipers at the front that are operated by a radial brake master cylinder handle anchoring department. The front brake lever features 5-position lever adjustability. Shock absorption tasks at the front are handled by fully adjustable 45 mm Marzocchi fork with 170 mm wheel travel.
The electronics are based on Bosch 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (6D IMU). The comprehensive electronics package includes:
- Bosch Cornering ABS with the Slide by Brake function (with setting 1)
- Ducati Traction Control EVO (DTC EVO)
- Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO
- Optional Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up and Down EVO
The 4.3" TFT display is compatible with the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), which can be added as an optional extra. The DMS tech connects the motorcycle to a smartphone via Bluetooth and manages incoming calls, text messaging and music via the switchgear.
