Suzuki’s new quarter-litre motorcycle, the Gixxer SF 250, may not go to the Indonesian market due to the Single Over Head Camshaft or SOHC layout of its engine, suggests a report from Detikoto.

The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 may not go to the Indonesian market as the SOHC motor may not appeal to a lot of buyers.

The report quotes Banggas Pardede, Marketing Manager, Suzuki Indonesia (two-wheelers), who stated that while the design of the new motorcycle is acceptable, the SOHC layout of the engine may not appeal to the Indonesian buyers. However, he did not completely write-off the product. Banggas Pardede added that the company could consider the model for the Indonesian market if there is demand, but there are no such plans yet. Suzuki will most likely introduce the GSX-S250 in Indonesia that features a twin-cylinder motor.

For the reason the Gixxer SF 250 is being ruled out for Indonesia, it is safe to assume that the upcoming motorcycles with the same engine – the Gixxer 250 naked roadster and the Intruder 250 cruiser – also won't be sold there.

To give you a quick recap, the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 was launched in India at INR 1.71 lakh*. With that price tag, the Gixxer SF 250 sits between the Yamaha Fazer-25 and the Honda CBR250R that retail at INR 1.44 lakh* and INR 1.94 lakh* respectively.

The Gixxer SF 250 draws power from 249 cc single-cylinder, 4-valve, SOHC, fuel-injected engine that features the company’s new Suzuki Oil Cooling System. Paired with a six-speed gearbox, the motor makes 26.5 PS of max power at 9,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. The fuel economy rating of the sports tourer is 38.5 km/l.

The fully faired quarter-litre Suzuki Gixxer packs premium features such as full-LED headlight and tail lamp, digital instrument console and a dual-channel ABS. All these features will likely make it to the Gixxer 250 and the Intruder 250.

Meanwhile, back in India, Suzuki plans to stay away from commuter motorcycles and target buyers in premium space with new products having engines with displacement higher than 150 cc. The company plans to introduce two new products every year in the country every year.
