Suzuki Motorcycle India made a comeback in the quarter-litre segment of the Indian market with the launch of the Gixxer SF 250. Before the Gixxer SF 250, Suzuki had participated in the 250 cc segment with the Inazuma 250, but that motorcycle could not meet the expected sales target. Now, the company reportedly plans to add a cruiser motorcycle in the 250 cc space, under the Intruder brand.

A report from Zigwheels claims that Suzuki will use the new 250 cc platform for multiple models. We have already reported about the Gixxer 250 naked roadster that will reach the Indian market in the coming months. The Intruder 250 will most likely follow the naked roadster. It could debut at Auto Expo 2020 before going on sale later the same year.
For starters, the Intruder 250 will use the same motor that powers the recently launched Gixxer SF 250. The fully-faired Gixxer draws 26.5 PS at 9,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm from its 249 cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled, 4-valve, SOHC engine with fuel injection. The engine is linked to a six-speed gearbox. The motor on the Intruder 250 will be BS-VI compliant right from day one, though.
The quarter-litre cruiser also will likely use conventional telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock to perform the shock absorption tasks. A single disc on both wheels will handle braking duties, while the safety net, unlike on the 155 cc model, will likely include dual-channel ABS.
The styling is likely to be different from the existing Intruder 155. The new visual cues could be brought to the 155 cc model later, marking its mid-cycle refresh. The feature list of the 250 cc model should be better, and it will most likely include full-LED headlight, the same instrument console as that of the Gixxer SF 250 and a twin-pod exhaust system.
We expect the Suzuki Intruder 250 to cost somewhere between INR 1.75-1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 retails at INR 1,70,655 (ex-showroom Delhi).
The 250 cc segment of the Indian market currently does not have a cruiser motorcycle. In addition to Suzuki, Harley-Davidson could also be planning to have a 250 cc cruiser motorcyle. The company has confirmed that it will introduce a new entry-level model next year. Bajaj plans to update its Avenger range in 2020, and we may see a 250 cc cruiser from the Indian two-wheeler brand as well.
