Royal Enfield 650 Twins to get a price hike soon – Report

The Royal Enfield Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 are likely to receive a price hike soon, claims a report from Gaadiwaadi. The report states that the 650 Twins' prices may go up by INR 20,000. There is no communication about a price hike from the company yet.

The Royal Enfield 650 Twins may receive a hike of INR 20,000, which will bring the price of their entry-level variant to INR 2.70 lakh* (Interceptor INT 650) and INR 2.85 lakh* (Continental GT 650) respectively.

The Royal Enfield 650 Twins, which were launched in November last year, are the most affordable 650 cc motorcycles in India. Currently, the Interceptor INT 650 is priced from INR 2.50 lakh*, while the Continental GT 650 is available from INR 2.65 lakh* onwards. With the expected price increase of INR 20,000, the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 range will start at INR 2.70 lakh* and INR 2.85 lakh* respectively. The Royal Enfield 650 Twins are delivering promising numbers. Both, the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650, command a waiting period of three to five months (as on April 12, 2019). The 650 cc motorcycles clocked total sales of 7,182 units in six months (as of April 2019).

Royal Enfield has designed the 650 Twins to be global products, and apart from India, they are available in markets like USA, UK, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. Eicher Motors MD & CEO Siddhartha Lal said in an interview last year that the company hopes to achieve global annual sales of up to 1 million units with the 650 twins in the next 5 to 10 years.

Royal Enfield will soon commence operations at its first overseas plant, located in Thailand, by the second half of the year. The facility in Thailand will assemble CKD kits sourced from India. Also, the company is evaluating the possibility of assembling the 650 twins in Brazil.

There is no communication from Royal Enfield about a price hike yet. The prices of the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 start at INR 2.50 lakh* and INR 2.65 lakh* respectively.

To give you a recap, the Royal Enfield Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 use a newly developed 648cc parallel-twin cylinder, air & oil cooled, SOHC engine that makes 47 bhp at 7,250 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm.
