Speaking about the launch of the new electric scooter, Nagesh Basavanhalli, MD and CEO, Greaves Cotton, said:
Ampere Vehicles known for technical ingenuity combined with Greaves retail scale and efficiency has resulted in successful growth over the last year. Today, we are complete EV ecosystem player with comprehensive offering of products, services & aftermarket support. We remain committed in bringing about transformation in how people access and experience next generation mobility solutions.
The Ampere Zeal uses a 1,200 watts BLDC hub motor that is powered by a 60V/30Ah battery. The new Zeal boasts a top speed of 55 km/h and has a claimed range of 75 km per full charge. The battery takes 5.5 hours to top up. The 0-50 km/h acceleration takes 14 seconds, claims the company. The scooter features two riding modes – economy and power.
In terms of styling, the Zeal looks near identical to the Okinawa Ridge electric scooter. The Zeal features an apron-mounted headlight while the blinkers occupy the space on fibre panel on the handlebar. The light is a full LED unit. The scooter misses body coloured rear view mirror housing that could have added a premium touch to the visuals. Instead, it uses black coloured units. The saddle looks comfortable enough to accommodate two adults. The pillion grab rail gets a black finish. Surprisingly, the company has also added another handle for the passenger next to the standard grab rail. The scooter is available in five colour options.
Shock absorption department uses conventional telescopic forks at the front that should deliver a comfortable ride quality. The back features a single-sided sprint to handle the suspension tasks. Anchoring power comes from drum brakes. The scooter also comes equipped with an anti-theft alarm.
