Hyundai has started the promotional campaign of the Styx (QXi). It has released the first of a series of videos that “will underpin the SUV’s drivability in enduring high latitudes and extreme weather conditions.”
The Styx is Hyundai’s answer to the Maruti Vitara Brezza, which is not only the best-seller in its segment but also the country’s most popular SUV. It is the production version of the Hyundai Carlino HND-14 concept, and it will compete with the Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon. Hyundai’s design language has substantially changed, and the production version has incorporated those changes.
Measuring no longer than 4,000 mm in length, the Hyundai Styx is smaller than the Hyundai Creta and the Hyundai Kona. It has a traditional SUV design with conventional proportions. At the front, it features a two-tier headlight setup which Hyundai calls ‘Composite Light’ and a large Cascading grille between them. Its profile is reminiscent of the Hyundai Creta because of the similar design of the greenhouse. The rear-end of this squarish small SUV has remained almost entirely hidden until now, but part-LED tail lamps have been seen during some test runs.
Hyundai will offer the Styx with a 100 hp 1.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 90 hp 1.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine and a 100 hp 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The turbocharged petrol engine will be far torquier than the naturally aspirated unit. Transmission choices will include 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
