HMSI (Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India) has announced the availability of the CB Shine and CB Shine SP drum brake variants with the safety net of CBS. While the disc brake variants already featured CBS tech, the safety net to the drum variants comes weeks before the April 2019 deadline set by the Indian government for the mandatory installation of CBS and ABS tech on new two-wheelers sold in the country.

The CB Shine Drum CBS has arrived at INR 58,338 while the CB Shine SP Drum CBS can be purchased for INR 64,098 (both ex-showroom Delhi prices).

The changes are limited to the addition of CBS to both models. Both motorcycles use a 124cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that delivers 10.1 bhp of maximum power at 7,500 rpm and 10.3 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm. The motor sends the power to the rear wheel via a four-speed gearbox.
Hardware specifications, too, remain identical to the outgoing (non-ABS) model and shock absorption tasks are performed by telescopic forks at the front and twin springs at the rear. Anchoring duties are performed by 130mm drum brakes on both ends while a 240mm disc is available as an option.
The Honda CB Shine is the company’s highest selling motorcycle and second most sold product after the Activa. In December, the company sold 49,468 units of the CB Shine in the country. November and September sales stand at 70,803 and 91,319 units respectively. The 125cc commuter motorcycle crossed the 70 lakh sales milestone in October last year.

In more updates, the two-wheeler brand is gearing up to introduce a premium motorcycle in the sub-500cc segment, the CB300R. The bookings for the CB300R have already commenced while the prices would be announced at the launch on February 8. Honda had stated in its release that the motorcycle would arrive below the INR 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom) price range. The CB300R would come via the CKD route to the country.
