CarWale reader Triyank Mittal recently spotted a Hyundai Kona Electric test mule on Mathura Road in New Delhi. The full-electric SUV made its Indian debut at the 2018 MOVE Summit in September and is slated to go on sale in H1 2019. In November 2018, the car had its first public outing at the company's 'Brilliant Kids Motorshow' conducted in Gurugram.

The India-spec Hyundai Kona will likely feature a mid-range trim and an entry-level powertrain.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) is expected to introduce the Kona Electric in an entry-level or a mid-range trim that misses out on high-end features like satellite navigation, advanced driver assistance systems, head-up display and leather upholstery. Unlike the top-spec trim, which features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the entry-level model gets a 7-inch touchscreen unit.

Internationally, the all-electric Hyundai Kona is on sale in two powertrain variants. The Indian version will expectedly feature the more affordable option, which comprises an electric motor that produces 136 PS and 395 Nm. It gets its juice from a 39.2 kWh battery pack and offers a claimed driving range of 345 km*. The battery set can be replenished through a 7.2 kW onboard charger that takes 6 hours and 10 minutes to fully charge. That said, 80% charge can be achieved in just 54 minutes using a 100 kW fast charger.

On the other hand, the pricier variant features a more powerful electric motor that outputs 204 PS and 395 Nm. Its 64 kWh battery pack provides a driving range of 546 km*. The batteries can be completely charged in 9 hours and 35 minutes and to 80% of the capacity in 75 minutes through a 100 kW fast charger.
