Maruti Suzuki has started accepting pre-booking for the 2019 WagonR and announced its features and specifications. Customers can place an order for their tall boy hatchback for INR 11,000.
While reports had said that the Maruti WagonR will stick to its old platform because the Heartect platform would make the car too expensive, that’s not the case. Maruti Suzuki has confirmed in a press release that it has developed the “Big New WagonR” on the Heartect platform, which underpins the Ignis, Swift, Baleno and Dzire.
Maruti Suzuki will offer the third generation WagonR with a 1.0-litre or a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The company hasn’t released details of these engines, but from leaks, we know that these are the K10B three-cylinder (67.98 PS/90 Nm) and K12M four-cylinder (82.94 PS/113 Nm) units. Transmission choices include 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual. The company says that the all-new model has improved safety, rigidity and NVH performance.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R features a new Smartplay Studio touchscreen infotainment system. Expect this system, which will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support as per reports, to have a low-cost resistive touchscreen. On the safety front, the all-new model will come equipped with driver airbag, ABS with EBD, front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors in all the grades.
