The 2019 Maruti Wagon R has gone on sale at a starting price of INR 4.19 lakh. The third generation of the company’s favourite tallboy (more than 2.2 million units sold so far) is available with two engine options and in four trim levels. The new model has already garnered over 12,000 pre-orders within a week of the commencement of bookings.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R features a modern look and has larger dimensions than earlier iterations. The new model measures 3,655 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,435 mm, which is 35 mm higher than that of the outgoing version and is identical to that of the Maruti Ignis. The front façade of the 2019 Wagon R features squarish 'dual-split' headlamps and a bold chrome applique on the rectangular grille. Highlights of the side profile include blacked-out B-pillars, turn indicators on the ORVMs, and a blacked out section on the C-pillar for the floating roof effect. The rear-end boasts tall tail lamps that are slightly reminiscent of the latest-gen Ertiga.
On the inside, the 2019 Maruti Wagon R features a dual-tone colour scheme. The top-spec ZXi trim comes with a long list of features, including 7.0-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electrically-adjustable ORVMs, day/night IRVM, tilt-adjustable steering, steering-mounted audio controls and 60:40 split folding rear seats. Standard safety features across all trims include – central locking, front seat-belt reminder (SBR), door ajar warning, rear parking sensors, speed alert warning, ABS with EBD, and a driver-side airbag.
Engine options for the 2019 Maruti Wagon R include the K10B 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor of the outgoing version and the K12M 1.2-litre four-pot petrol engine from the Ignis. The former outputs a maximum power of 67.98 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 90 Nm at 3,500 rpm, while the latter outputs 82.94 PS at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm at 4,200 rpm.
Transmission options for both the powertrains include a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT. The new model is underpinned by the fifth generation Heartect platform. Thanks to the lightweight architecture, the new model is up to 20 kg lighter than the outgoing version. The base motor of the 2019 Maruti Wagon R has a fuel efficiency of 22.5 km/l**, while the bigger engine offers 21.5 km/l**.
