The all-new Yamaha MT-15 has been showcased at the ongoing Thai Motor Show 2018.
The 2019 Yamaha MT-15 made its global debut in Thailand on 8 October. The MT-15, earlier known as the Yamaha M-Slaz, is a naked streetfighter version of the Yamaha YZF-R15. The looks are radical, especially the bug-eyed LED headlight. The motorcycle features a sculpted fuel tank and a slightly lowered tail section along with a single-piece seat.
The Yamaha MT-15 comes equipped with a new all-digital instrument cluster, which has been lifted from the Yamaha R15. Apart from the engine, the mechanicals remains unchanged. It continues to use the 17-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, USD front forks, rear mono-shock and the lightweight aluminium swing-arm.
At the heart is the Yamaha R15 V3.0 sourced 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, four-valve motor with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation). The engine is tuned for a maximum power of 19 bhp and a peak torque of 14.8 Nm. The fuel injected mill works in harmony with a six-speed gearbox with a segment-first slipper clutch.
The company has used the R15’s famous deltabox chassis on the Yamaha MT-15, which brings the necessary lateral stiffness and handling prowess to the motorcycle. The introduction of VVA has helped in providing better low-end and mid-range torque, as seen on the YZF-R15. Anchorage is provided by disc brakes at the either ends with no option of ABS. It has a 10 litre fuel tank and a 133 kg kerb weight.

If a report, dated 23 October, is to be believed, India Yamaha Motor is planning to launch the MT-15 in India in 2019. In India, the Yamaha MT-15 will rival the KTM 125 Duke in price, and as far as power figures are concerned, it will compete with the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Hero Xtreme 200R.
