IAB reader Sankar S recently spotted a Mahindra S201 during its final testing. At the beginning of this month, Gaadiwaadi had come up with a batch of Mahindra S201 spy images that revealed the dashboard in full glory, thereby confirming that the interior mimics that of the Ssangyong Tivoli to a great extent.
In spite of being based on the Ssangyong Tivoli, the Mahindra's exterior will feature numerous unique elements at its front- and rear-end. Not just this, the new model will be slightly smaller. While the Ssangyong Tivoli measures 4,202 mm in length, its Mahindra-badged derivative will be shorter to circumnavigate the higher GST that is levied on vehicles with an overall length of more than four metres.
At its front-end, the Mahindra S201 will carry LED headlamps with U-shaped LED DRLs, signature six-slot grille, and a hexagonal air intake. At the rear, the model will feature a new tailgate with registration plate housing, and horizontally positioned LED taillamps.
The equipment list for the top-spec Mahindra S201 will include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, engine start/stop button, an electric sunroof, and a multi-function steering wheel. Safety net on offer will encompass all-wheel disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors with rear-view camera, ABS with EBD, seven airbags, ESP, and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.

The Mahindra S201 will go on sale with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre oil-burner that will be shared with the Marazzo. The latter outputs 121 bhp/300 Nm and comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The compact SUV will launch in January 2019 and is expected to cost at least INR 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Other than the Maruti Vitara Brezza, it will lock horns with the Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.
