The Mahindra S201 will be powered by a 1.5-liter diesel engine and 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine, according to reports.

While Mahindra has announced that one of the launches before the festive season is the Mahindra Marazzo MPV, Indian Autos Blog understands that the second launch prior to November (Diwali period) is the all-new Mahindra Rexton (codename Y400). That leaves the Mahindra S201 (codename) which is the January 2019 launch Dr. Goenka is referring to.

The S201 is the Indian-ized version of the Ssangyong Tivoli. The major made-for-India change is the reduction of the overall length from 4,195 mm to <4,000 mm to qualify for small car GST rates. Mahindra designers have gone about doing this by redoing the C-Pillar and the front-end of the Tivoli, spy shots have shown. The vertically stacked combination lights are now redesigned to horizontal units as well.

The S201 will be powered by a set of new petrol and diesel engines developed by Mahindra and Ssangyong. The sub-4 meter SUV will get a 1.5-liter diesel engine (borrowed from the upcoming Mahindra Marazzo) reported to produce 121 hp and 300 Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and the petrol is expected to be a 1.2-liter turbocharged unit with 140 hp.
