Classic Legends Pvt Ltd launched the Jawa Forty-Two in India on November 15, at a price of INR 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The motorcycle can be booked online for INR 5,000, while deliveries will commence from January 2019. Here are the top six things you should know about the new model -
1. Design
The Jawa Forty-Two is a bolder and more aggressive version of the classic model. The motorcycle is available in bright paint schemes with four matte and two metallic colour options. It offers an off-centre positioning of the speedometer, a round headlamp, a wide handlebar, and a round-ish fuel tank. Compared to the standard version, the Forty-Two comes with shorter fenders.
2. Platform
The Jawa Forty-Two shares its double-cradle chassis with the Jawa classic and the Jawa Perak. The frame holds the engine as the stressed member. The motorcycle rides on 18-inch and 17-inch wire-spoke wheels at the front and rear, respectively. They have been shod with MRF rubber.
3. Engine
The Jawa Forty-Two employs a 293cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel injected motor that is capable of generating 27 bhp of maximum power and 28 Nm of peak torque. The 4-valve, DOHC engine has been derived from the Mahindra Mojo's powerplant. It comes mated to a 6-speed transmission. Moreover, it offers compliance with the BSVI emission norms.
4. Features
The equipment on offer is mostly similar to what the Jawa classic provides. It receives an analogue-digital instrument cluster, a front disc brake and a rear drum brake, and a single-channel ABS. Suspension duties are courtesy of telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the back.
5. Availability
Bookings of the Jawa Forty-Two have been underway for INR 5,000. Deliveries are slated to start in January 2019. The Forty-Two is the most affordable Jawa motorcycle in India. It costs INR 1.55 (ex-showroom Delhi).

6. Competition
The Jawa Forty-Two is a rival to the Royal Enfield Classic 350, which has, until now, dominated the sales charts with no direct competition to speak of. It will also rival other Royal Enfield models such as the Thunderbird 350 and the Thunderbird 350X.
