The 2019 Hyundai Elantra has reached India for local testing. IAB reader Kumar Uchit from Ooty today emailed the first spy shots of the facelifted model in the country.

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra looks much bolder and more upmarket than the outgoing model.

The sixth generation Hyundai Elantra was an elegantly designed sedan with smoothly contoured lines and abundant curves. With the mid-cycle refresh, it has become decidedly sharper and aggressive, with a thoroughly changed exterior. Right from the hood, to the grille, the bumpers, the headlights, the front fenders and the taillights have a new design.

At the front, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra has a prominent Cascading grille, triangular, LED headlights and separately positioned turn indicators, mounted right above the fog lamps to form a triangular shape. On the sides, there are new alloy wheels available in 15-, 16- or 17-inch sizes. The test mule sports 16-inch alloy wheels, and expect them as standard in our market.

At the rear are newly designed LED tail lights. The Hyundai logo is positioned lower, right between. Like on the facelifted Hyundai Sonata, the model branding is in lettering spread out on the trunk, a trait of luxury sedans.

The interior revisions are not as significant. As we pointed out in our old vs. new comparison, you’ll see a new steering wheel and temperature controls. The 2019 model will likely feature a high-speed alert system that will become mandatory from July 2019.

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra may retain the engine options in India: Nu 2.0 petrol and U2 1.6 diesel. The petrol engine produces 152 PS and 19.6 kg.m (192.21 Nm) of torque. The diesel engine develops 128 PS and 26.5 kg.m (259.88 Nm) of torque. 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic should remain the transmission choices.

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra will likely go on sale in India in the first half of 2019.
