If recent reports are to be believed, Yamaha will unveil the new YZF-R25 by November 2018. Reports suggest that Yamaha will unveil the motorcycle at the 2018 Indonesia Motorcycle Show that will be held from October 31 to November 4, 2018. The motorcycle show will overlap the Malaysian leg of the MotoGP 2018 calendar and Yamaha may use the opportunity to invite Factory MotoGP riders, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales for the unveiling.

Regular followers would know that the Yamaha YZF-25 and YZF-R3 share an identical design. Thus, all the changes on the 2019 YZF-R25 will reflect on the 2019 YZF-R3. Test mules of the quarter-litre motorcycle were spotted sans camouflage back in August 2018. The test mules revealed that the Yamaha YZF-R25/R3 will receive a revised fascia, featuring a full LED headlight.

The hardware list will see some revisions too as the test mules featured upside-down telescopic front forks. However, similar to the 2018 YZF-R15 V3.0, the Indian-spec 2019 YZF-R3 may arrive with a conventional telescopic suspension to keep the costs low and prices competitive.

Changes to the sides and the rear aren’t too many and the motorcycle will continue to use clip-on handlebar, step-up split seat, two-tone exhaust and a LED tail light.

Engine specifications are unlikely to change much from the current models. So expect to see the same 249cc, parallel twin, liquid-cooled engine on the YZF-R25 that produces 35 bhp of power and 22.6Nm of torque. The YZF-R3 will use a 321 cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, in-line 2-cylinder, fuel-injected engine tuned to produce 42 PS of power and 29.6 Nm of peak torque. Both motorcycles will continue to use a six-speed gearbox.

Reports from July 2018 suggest that the new YZF-R25 and YZF-R3 will also feature slipper clutch and Yamaha’s variable valve technology – Variable Valve Actuation(VVA).

The Indian market will receive the new YZF-R3 that will compete against the segment leader KTM 390 Duke, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the TVS Apache RR310. The current YZF-R3 (ABS) retails for INR 3.48 Lakh (Ex-showroom). The new model, with its premium hardware, is expected to arrive with a higher price tag.
