Alongside premium models Tata Harrier and Tata 45X, Tata Motors is working on JTP performance variants of the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor. Recently, IAB reader Kumar Uchit spotted a Tata Tiago JTP undergoing testing on Coonoor-Kothagiri road.
As seen in the spy shot, the Tata Tiago JTP looks more aggressive than the regular Tiago. That’s because of the unique styling elements JT Special Vehicles, a 50:50 joint venture of Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives, has dressed it up with. These include a honeycomb mesh upper grille and lower grille, hood vent, sharper front bumper and sportier alloy wheels.
There’s more to the Tiago JTP than what’s seen here. The show car at Auto Expo 2018 had red JTP logos, smoked headlamps, red mirror caps, faux fender vents, distinctive rear bumper, black roof spoiler and twin exhaust tips. The interior sported an all-black theme with red accents on the air vents, premium leather seats and steering with contrast red stitching and sport pedals.
The Tata Tiago JTP will sport the JTP 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission with optimised gear ratios. This engine develops 110 PS at 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000 rpm. The JTP variant will have a firmer suspension setup and a lower ground clearance to provide a more dynamic driving experience. From the display model, we expect larger 15-inch wheels shod with 185/60 R15 tyres as well.
