Royal Enfield is gearing up for the launch of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 parallel-twin motorcycles in India, says a report from Overdrive.
The publication reports that the company has sent the media ride invitation for the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650, scheduled for September 2018 in California, USA. That said, the 650 twins are likely to launch in India during the festive period (October 2018). In May, Siddhartha Lal, CEO & Managing Director - Royal Enfield, confirmed that the motorcycles would launch in the domestic market in the ‘next few months.’
According to Royal Enfield, the 650 twins are the reincarnation of its classic legends – the Interceptor and Continental GT. Both motorcycles share the engine, chassis, suspension setup, headlamps and a few other cosmetic bits. However, they have different handlebar, seat and fuel tank designs. While the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a neo-retro café racer, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a modern classic roadster.
The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 features the quintessential British racing heritage with the clip-on handlebars, tear-drop fuel tank, and a café racer-style single-seat. On the other hand, the Interceptor 650 twin features neo-classic styling in the form of a round fuel tank, raised wide handlebar, and a single-piece seat.
Powering the Royal Enfield 650 twins is an all-new 648 cc, parallel-twin, oil-cooled, SOHC engine. The fuel-injected motor is capable of developing 47 bhp of maximum power at 7,100 rpm and a peak torque of 52 Nm at 5,250 rpm. Royal Enfield has designed a new 6-speed gearbox with a standard slipper clutch, which transfers power to the wheels.
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 have 41 mm front telescopic forks and gas-charged twin coil-over shock absorbers at the back. Both come with 18-inch wire-spoke wheels that run on Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tires. They are equipped with disc brakes at front and back with dual-channel ABS as standard fitment.

While the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 comes with a fuel tank capacity of 12.5 litres, the Interceptor 650 has a higher fuel tank capacity of 13.7 litres. The Continental GT 650 tips the scales at 199 kg, while the Interceptor 650 receives a kerb weight of 203 kg. As far as pricing is concerned, the Royal Enfield 650 twins could retail at INR 3 lakh (ex-showroom).
