Sub-Creta Hyundai crossover to ride on a new platform - Report

After penetrating the B-SUV space with the Hyundai Creta (Hyundai ix25) and the Hyundai Kona (Hyundai Kauai/Hyundai Encino) worldwide, Hyundai is working on an A-CUV. In a recent interview with Argentina Autoblog, Hyundai Latin America’s product specialist Armando Cardoso divulged new information about the entry-level car.

The Hyundai A-CUV will slot below the Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Kona depending on the market. It was expected to come out like a product similar to the Ford Freestyle (Ford Ka+ Active/Ford Ka Freestyle). Confirming the same, Cardoso says that this model is a city car with an SUV or crossover design. It will ride on a completely new platform.

Cardoso has also said that the Hyundai A-CUV’s launch in the international markets will take place shortly. So far, Hyundai has announced this model only for the U.S. market, where it launches in 2019 or 2020. A possibility is that the Hyundai A-CUV is the ‘Leonis’ Hyundai Motor Group is contemplating for South Korea.

For India, Hyundai is working on the Hyundai Carlino (codename: Hyundai QXi), a sub-4 metre model. It will come with engines not bigger than 1.2-litre (petrol)/1.5-litre (diesel) for lower taxation. It will reach showrooms in H1 2019, likely with 1.0-litre T-GDi petrol and 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine options.
