Honda Amaze to get costlier from August 1

Honda Cars India has indirectly announced a price hike on the all-new Honda Amaze come August 1, 2018. The company's website says the Amaze's introductory price of INR 5,59,900, ex-Showroom is valid till July 31. Further, Honda states it has received over 26,000 bookings for the compact sedan which went on sale in the country on May 22, 2018.

The Honda Amaze is available in India in four powertrain combinations: Petrol MT, Petrol AT, Diesel MT and Diesel AT. The petrol engine is carried over from the previous generation Amaze - the 1.2-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder - capable of 90 PS and 110 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 5-speed manual or a CVT. The company claimed fuel efficiency stands at 19.5 km/l for the manual and 19.0 km/l for the automatic.

The diesel engine too is carried over from the predecessor but is tuned differently for manual and automatic gearboxes. The 1.5-liter i-DTEC makes 100 PS and 200 Nm on the 5-speed manual variant and 80 PS and 160 Nm on the CVT. Honda claims 27.4 km/l mileage on the manual and 23.8 km/l mileage on the automatic. All variants of the 2018 Honda Amaze get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and BA (brake assist) and reverse parking sensors as standard equipment.

According to an earlier report, 64 percent of Amaze buyers opt for the petrol variant.

The new Honda Amaze was in the news recently for an EPS inspection and replacement. The recall affects 7,290 units of the 18,892 units dispatched (numbers are for May and June 2018) to dealers. Competitors for the Honda Amaze include the Maruti Dzire, Ford Aspire, VW Ameo and Hyundai Xcent. In terms of sales, the Amaze currently ranks second with the Dzire taking the lead with an average of 24,415 units/month in May and June 2018.
