The sixth-gen VW Golf and seventh-gen VW Golf have shown up on Indian roads time and again for years now. Recently, the latter's GTD variant was spotted in Bangalore. Images seen here were shared on Team-BHP.
The VW Golf GTD is unlikely to be launched in India. It's probably here for component testing. The KA plates suggest that it has been imported by Bosch, not Volkswagen. Strengthening this speculation is what looks like PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement System) from Bosch at the car's rear.
The VW Golf GTD is a diesel alternative to the VW Golf GTI. It is powered by the 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 135 kW (184 PS) at 3,500-4,000 rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 1,750-3,250 rpm. Power goes to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission or the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. The MT model takes 7.5 seconds for a 0-100 km/h sprint, and it has a top speed of 231 km/h. The DSG model can reach from nought to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds quicker, but it maxes out at 230 km/h.

The VW Golf's sedan version, the VW Jetta, was sold here for two generations, but not anymore. The new generation VW Jetta is an LHD-only model. The Golf, Volkswagen's best-selling car globally, however, has never been sold in India. The company does see it eventually reaching our market, though. The VW Golf GTI is under consideration, and it could be launched this year or in 2019. The next-gen VW Golf, and maybe the next-gen VW Golf GTI as well, will enter production in June 2019.
