Mahindra will start producing its version of the SsangYong Rexton in India in Q3 2018. Meanwhile, Mahindra is still testing the original Ssangyong-branded version on the roads, spy shots released by RushLane have revealed. Some media outlets refer to it as Mahindra XUV700 while some are calling it Mahindra Rexton.
The G4 SsangYong Rexton is the fourth generation model of the SUV. While the third generation was launched here as a SsangYong model, the fourth-generation model will be launched with a Mahindra badge. The Indian-spec version has some design changes that make it recognisable as a Mahindra model.
The Mahindra Rexton is differentiated by a different front grille comprising chrome and gloss black vertical slats and a gloss black frame. It also has a chrome bonnet applique and Mahindra badging all around.
The G4 SsangYong Rexton is sold in 5- and 7-seat versions, while the Mahindra Rexton may come with only a 7 seat configuration. It will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine good for 178 bhp and 420 Nm. A Mercedes-Benz-sourced 7-speed automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system are likely to be standard. In certain international markets, the SsangYong-branded version is sold with a 6-speed manual transmission as well.
Key features of the Mahindra Rexton include HID headlamps, LED DRLs, electric sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation, electric parking brake, and 9 airbags.
