The 2018 Honda Amaze clocked record-breaking sales last month. 9,789 units is the highest ever for a single Honda model in India. The compact sedan went on sale on May 16 following its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in February.
Including the entire line-up, Honda’s sales in May 2018 stood at 15,864 units, 41% higher than in May 2017. Needless to say, this significant growth was led by the Honda Amaze, the sales of which increased by over 6 times from the same time last year (1,323 units). Honda had prioritised Amaze production volumes to cater to the strong customer demand during last month.
The all-new Honda Amaze is Honda’s first model that is available in a diesel engine-CVT combination. Currently, this combination is available in only India. The diesel engine in question is the 1.5-litre i-DTEC four-cylinder unit that produces 80 PS at 3,600 rpm and 160 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. The same diesel engine delivers 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque at the same engine speeds if configured with a 5-speed manual transmission instead. The 2018 Honda Amaze diesel has a fuel economy rating of 23.8 km/l (CVT)/27.4 km/l (MT).
The 2018 Honda Amaze is available with a 1.2-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder petrol engine as well. This engine develops 90 PS at 6,000 rpm and 110 PS at 4,800 rpm. It is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission. The petrol engine model’s fuel economy is rated at 19.5 km/l (MT)/19.0 km/l (CVT).
