In addition to the next-gen Mercedes-AMG A 45, a Mercedes-AMG A 35 is also in the works. The new AMG variant of the fourth generation Mercedes A-Class was recently spied testing by Pro-Street.dk reader Brian in Prague.
The Mercedes-AMG A 35 will serve as a Mercedes-AMG 53 series (previously Mercedes-AMG 43 series)-like cheaper alternative to the flagship Mercedes-AMG A 45. It will sport a 2.0-litre petrol engine tuned to deliver 250 kW (335.256 hp). A 0-100 km/h acceleration time of under 5 seconds is expected from the A 35.
The Mercedes-AMG A 35 will have a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Its petrol engine will feature twin-turbocharging by means of a conventional exhaust gas turbocharger and an electric auxiliary compressor. The electric compressor will kick-in first, providing for a spike in torque right from the get-go so that there's no lag till the exhaust gas turbocharger is deployed.

The Mercedes-AMG A 35 will help bridge the gap between the Mercedes A 250 and the Mercedes-AMG A 45. The latter is likely to go on sale only in 2019. The Mercedes-AMG A 35 will compete with the likes of Audi S3 and BMW M140i. A sedan version is also planned and it is undergoing road testing. The regular 2018 Mercedes A-Class hatchback will reach showrooms in May.
