Earlier this year, IAB revealed that Audi has confirmed the Audi SQ2 and that its launch will take place this year. Now, Audi’s Technical Development chief Peter Mertens has indicated that the sportier Audi Q2 variant will debut in the second half of the year.

Audi SQ2 Audi future product roadmap
The Audi SQ2 may debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October.

Mr. Mertens has said that the Audi SQ2 will follow the Audi Q8 coupe SUV. The latter will have its world debut in June, which means that the former will most likely arrive only in July or later. Audi may unveil the new model at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October.

The Audi SQ2 would feature sportier bumpers, bigger air inlets, exclusive alloy wheels, red brake callipers with rhombus S logos, distinctive rear spoiler, chrome inserts, quad exhaust outlets and a number of elements in matt-aluminium. Inside, the performance-oriented theme will likely continue with the familiar Audi Sport differentiation for S variants, including illuminated door sill trims with rhombus S emblems, stainless-steel pedals and footrest, sport leather steering wheel, brushed aluminium decorative surfaces and more.

Audi S3 TFSI engine
The Audi SQ2 is said to employ a detuned version of the Audi S3’s 306 hp 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged petrol engine.

The Audi SQ2 is said to employ a detuned version of the Audi S3’s 306 hp 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged petrol engine. Some reports say that the SQ2's version will have a maximum output of around 295 hp, while others speak of a notable reduction to around 250 hp. A firmer S sport suspension should lower the ride height and provide a more dynamic driving experience in the S variant.

Audi could start accepting orders for the SQ2 in Europe in Q4 2018 (October-December 2018).
