Autocar reports that Hero MotoCorp is likely to showcase a 125 cc scooter at the 2018 Auto Expo next month. It could be a production version of the Hero Dare concept which the Indian manufacturer showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo.
In the current 125 cc segment, popular scooters include the Vespa SXL/VXL 125, Honda Grazia and Activa 125, and the Suzuki Access 125. This segment will also witness the arrival of the Aprilia SR 125 soon. Hero’s upcoming 125 cc scooter will reportedly have classic design lines to compete with the likes of the Vespa.

It was reported in August that the Dare may be called the Hero Aava when it launches. Expect modern features like LED DRL and digital instrument console to be present in the upcoming scooter. The Dare uses a 124.6cc single-cylinder mill which is capable of producing 9.38 hp at 7,500 rpm; and 9.8 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine pairs with a CVT unit. Expect the same engine in the production version as well.
In terms of pricing, the scooter is likely to undercut the Vespa range. The expected price would be INR 60,000, ex-showroom. The Suzuki Access, which enjoys a 50% market share, will be the biggest rival to the upcoming Hero scooter.
