Apart from the new colour scheme, there are no mechanical changes to the bike. It continues to use the 649cc parallel twin DOHC engine with liquid cooling. The powerplant is capable of generating 68 PS of power at 8,000 rpm, and 65.7 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Working in unison with the engine is a 6-speed gearbox. Speaking on the launch, Yutaka Yamashita, Managing Director of India Kawasaki Motors said:
We take a lot of pride in different colour combinations, though the green and black is our signature style. The Ninja 650 in black received a very good response in the Indian market. Now we are expecting the same for blue Ninja 650 ABS.
A 41 mm telescopic front fork and a rear horizontal back-link with adjustable preload hold the high tensile steel trellis frame. 300 mm petal discs at the front and a single 220 mm rear disc handle the braking responsibility. The brakes come with ABS as standard. The motorcycle weighs 196 kg, kerb, and the fuel tank can hold 15 litres of juice.
