Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director of TVS Motor Company announced that the new TVS Apache RTR 160 will be launched in the country ‘soon’.
Venu revealed the launch plan on the side-lines of the Apache RR 310 launch event. While the company has remained tight-lipped about more details, expect the brand to showcase the bike at the 2018 India Auto Expo. The bike was spotted testing recently. The 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 borrows design cues from the Apache RTR 200; and rivals naked bikes in the segment like the Suzuki Gixxer, Honda CB Hornet 160R, and Bajaj Pulsar NS 160.

The 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 features various changes to set it apart from the 200 cc motorcycle. The motorcycle comes with a single piece seat instead of the split seats found in the RTR 200. The seat, along with the single piece handlebar should result in a more comfortable upright riding position. The powerplant of the motorcycle that was spied earlier had an oil cooler. Expect the engine to produce marginally more power and torque than the existing one. Currently, the 159.7cc single cylinder mill makes 15.2 bhp at 8,500 rpm; and 13.1 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It is likely that the new bike will carry over the 5-speed transmission.

Suspension bits include telescopic front forks, and a rear monoshock. For braking, the motorcycle comes with petal disc at the front, and a drum at the rear. While the current Apache 160 costs INR 76,575, ex-showroom Delhi, expect the new bike to command a premium of INR 5,000-7,000 over the current generation motorcycle.
