Hyundai will unveil the 2018 Hyundai i20 at Auto Expo 2018 next month. According to a report from Autocar India, the facelifted Hyundai i20 will debut with a CVT option.
The current Hyundai i20 is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, a 1.4-litre petrol engine linked to a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 1.4-litre diesel engine coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. With the facelift, the Hyundai will discontinue the 1.4-litre petrol engine and the 4-speed automatic transmission. In place of the 4-speed automatic transmission, the company will introduce a continuously variable transmission. Customers will have this option with a 1.2-litre petrol engine.
The 2018 Hyundai i20 1.2L CVT will likely have a higher fuel economy than the current Hyundai i20 1.4L 4AT (18.60 km/l). Sources say that Hyundai will not offer paddle shifters in it. The company could roll out this feature at a later date, though. The current model has the 4-speed automatic transmission option available only in the mid-level Magna grade. The new model could have the CVT option available even in the higher-end Sport and Asta grades, and maybe even the range-topping Asta (O) grade.
The 2018 Hyundai i20’s market launch could take place along with its world premiere next month. In that case, deliveries could commence by the month-end or in the beginning of March.
