Royal Enfield not launching new bikes till BS VI norms in 2020 - Report

Bloomberg Quint reports that Royal Enfield is not planning to introduce a new motorcycle until the BS VI emissions come into effect in 2020.

Siddhartha Lal, the MD and CEO of its parent company Eicher Motors, told the media house that the company is planning to concentrate on its two latest motorcycles: The Royal Enfield Interceptor INT 650, and the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 until the BS VI emission norms come into effect. The two motorcycles were recently showcased at the 2017 EICMA show held in Milan, Italy. In the meanwhile, the company aims to launch variants of the existing platforms. Lal said:

We will have variants from all platforms, like the Stealth Black, but no new platforms.

The production of the two upcoming 650 Twins will commence in April, next year. Royal Enfield plans to cater to the European market first, and then the domestic market. According to Lal, with the new bikes, the company is eyeing Southeast Asian and Latin American markets as well. The cult bike maker is planning to focus the next two financial years in fulfilling the production demand of the 650 Twins.

Royal Enfield aims to produce 8,25,000 motorcycles in the financial year 2017-18. The brand plans to sell 4.4 lakh motorcycles in the remaining months of this financial year. The website also reports that the company is aiming to reach a production figure of 75,000 units per month by March. Lal is bullish about meeting the demands with its existing plants; and added that they would step up the production level in case the demand goes up for a few months. The brand does not have plans to build another production facility till the next financial year. The production from its newest plant at Vallam Vadagal commenced in August.
