Mahindra is aggressively testing the SsangYong Tivoli-derived Mahindra S201 small SUV in India. Recently, the Mahindra S201 was spotted parked between what looks like the Mahindra XUV500 (facelift) and the Mahindra TUV300 Plus, courtesy Team-BHP.
The Mahindra S201 sits low and has a falling roofline for a sporty styling, and it looks very contemporary, unlike the rather traditionally styled Mahindra TUV300 Plus/Mahindra TUV300. It will look different from the SsangYong Tivoli at the front, with changes possibly revolving around the grille layout and bumper design. The interior is likely to look very similar to that of the South Korean SUV.
The Mahindra S201 will ride on the SsangYong X100 platform. It will have two versions, one offering two-row seating and the other three-row seating. Mahindra is working on the former first, as seen in the spy shots. This version will have a length of under four metres for qualifying as a small car. Both versions will have either a 1.2L turbocharged petrol or a 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine under the hood. The petrol engine, featuring direct injection, will develop around 140 hp. The diesel engine will produce as much as 125 hp.

Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra, has confirmed that the Mahindra S201 will arrive in the second half of FY2019. The Mahindra S201 will compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. Its extended version following later will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur.
