For the 'last mile' transportation segment.
Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd (PVPL), a 100 % subsidiary of the Italian Piaggio Group, today launched the Piaggio Porter 700 in India.
The four-wheeler cargo vehicle has 5-speed for Indian conditions on the basis of Piaggio’s ongoing customer feedback program. Piaggio says the product incorporates "high standards of Style, Design, Performance and Technology that Piaggio is known for internationally."
The Piaggio Porter 700 is powered by a single-cylinder 652 cc diesel engine that produces 14.75 hp at 3,200 rpm and 40 Nm of torque between 1,600-1,800 rpm. It is coupled with a 5 speed floor mounted synchromesh gearbox. Top speed is claimed to be 63 km/h.
Piaggio says the Piaggio Porter 700 is the only vehicle in the segment to come with twin headlamps. It has a payload capacity of 700 kg and a cargo deck of 30 sq.ft which ensures superior load carrying capability. It also has the highest in class ground clearance of 218 mm and offers good gradeability (21%) and manoeuvrability which ensures driving on steep gradients including city flyovers and narrow city roads is easier.
The Porter 700 comes with a 2 years/75,000 km extended warranty. The 4-wheeler will co-exist with the 3-wheeler products offered by the Italian company.
The Piaggio Porter 700 is priced at INR 3.31 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi) and is expected to reach dealerships by the end of this month. It competes with variants of the Mahindra Jeeto and the Tata Ace.
