Powered by an all new 2.0L turbodiesel motor.
Mercedes-Benz India has launched a new, more affordable variant of the 2017 Mercedes E Class diesel - E 220 d - which will retail at INR 57.14 Lakhs (ex-showroom Pune). Like the E 350d and E 200 petrol, the E 220d will also be based on the long wheelbase version sold exclusively in India and China.
Up until now, the only diesel motor available for the new E Class in India was the powerful 3.0L V6 twin turbo engine in the E 350 d, which was priced at INR 70.15 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Given that a majority of the demand for executive sedans are for diesel-powered ones, and that the E 350d is a bit too expensive for some, if not less fuel efficient, the launch of the E 220 d variant was inevitable.
The E 220 d is powered by an all new 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that produces 143 kW (195 PS) at 3,800 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 1,600 rpm and 2,800 rpm. Power is directed to the rear wheels via the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission. It is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 240 km/h.
Some of the standard features include LED headlamps with daytime running lights, 17-inch 5 spoke alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, three-zone THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, power adjustable front seats with lumbar support, power adjustable (fore and aft) rear seats, 12.3-inch COMAND Online infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration compatibility, steering-mounted touchpads, Attention Assist, and Parking Pilot.
